How to draw  Diagrams for Modes of vibrating Stretched String ? - Smarter Techniques

   If the string is tied at both ends by some tension T, and it is plucked at the middle, then the  string will vibrate with different modes.

Let L be length of string , m be mass per unit length of string ,

p be the number of loops formed in the string and n be the frequency  of vibrating string.

    


Fundamental or 1 st Harmonic frequency.


2 nd  Harmonics frequency.

 

3 rd  Harmonics frequency.

 

Now,

When p =1, the frequency is called Fundamental or 1 st Harmonic frequency.

When  p = 2, 3,    ….. ,

 the frequencies are  2 nd , 3 rd  ….. Harmonics.

Vibrating  Stretched string will vibrate with all Harmonic frequencies.
